Sister Michael Maurice Leahy, OP, marked 65 years of ministry with the Caldwell Dominican community in 2024. She entered the congregation on September 8, 1959, before completing her Bachelor of Arts in History with an English minor at Caldwell University. She later earned a Master of Arts in special education from Seton Hall University, furthering her commitment to serving individuals with diverse learning needs.
Sister Michael Maurice’s teaching career began at St. Elizabeth School in Linden, New Jersey, continued at Our Lady of the Lake in Verona, and then saw her as principal at St. Boniface School in Jersey City. Her leadership expanded further with roles as principal at Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair, St. Ann School in Newark, and St. Aedan School in Jersey City, teacher at St. Philomena School in Livingston, and principal at St. Catharine School in Spring Lake.
In addition to her work in education, Sister Michael Maurice contributed to Caldwell University as Dean of Students and an instructor in the Education Department. She also held the position of Director of Continuing Education at the university for four years, before returning to teach and advise students. Over the years, she served as senior academic advisor and assistant registrar at Caldwell University, impacting the academic journey of countless students.
Throughout her years of service, Sister Michael Maurice also served in various administrative and support roles, including directing transportation for the Sisters of St. Dominic.
