As she celebrates 50 years of religious life, Sister Luella Ramm, OP, reflects on a ministry that blends financial stewardship with a deep commitment to the well-being of the community. Before entering the congregation of the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell on September 8, 1974, Sister Luella began her journey with a degree in elementary education and a minor in sociology from Caldwell University. She later earned a master’s degree in administration from the University of Notre Dame.
Sister Luella’s early years of ministry were spent at Mount St. Dominic Academy in Caldwell, where she served both as treasurer and teacher for five years, before transitioning to St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center in Caldwell. She spent fourteen years there, first as a nursing assistant and later as a management administrator, where she provided vital leadership in support of the healthcare mission.
Her administrative skills continued to shine in various roles, including director of finance and plant manager at St. Dominic Academy in Jersey City. Her leadership extended to the larger Dominican family, where she served as comptroller and chief financial officer for the Sisters of St. Dominic in Blauvelt, NY.
Returning to the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell, Sister Luella’s service on the leadership team began with her role as councilor, where she focused on financial stewardship and governance. Her responsibilities continued to grow, and she served as vicaress, treasurer, and is currently the Prioress of the community. In each role, Sister Luella has remained steadfast in her commitment to ensure the health and vitality of the congregation.
Through her years of service, Sister Luella has left an indelible mark on the financial and spiritual life of her community, helping guide the Sisters of St. Dominic toward a sustainable future, while nurturing their charism of service to others.
