Celebrating 70 years as a Caldwell Dominican Sister, Sister Danelle McCarthy, OP, has woven a rich tapestry of service across multiple states and countries. Her journey began on August 15, 1954, when she entered the community. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in history with a minor in elementary education from Caldwell University, followed by a Master of Arts in American history from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Arts in pastoral ministry from Seton Hall University.
Sister Danelle’s teaching ministry spanned a wide range of educational settings, beginning with positions at Christ the King School in Hillside and St. Mary School in Wharton. Her teaching service also took her to Blessed Sacrament School in Bridgeport, CT, and St. Catherine School in Mobile, AL. Returning to New Jersey, she became principal at St. Raphael School in Livingston for four years, and later served at Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair as a teacher for five years.
Her leadership continued as principal at St. John the Baptist School in Jersey City for ten years, followed by a role as assistant development director at St. Dominic Academy. Sister Danelle went on to serve as principal at St. Aedan School in Jersey City and spent two years in the Bahamas as principal at St. Francis de Sales School in Marsh Harbor, Abaco. She later returned to St. Dominic Academy as registrar and teacher, where she remained as a volunteer in the Development Office.
In addition to her educational roles, Sister Danelle contributed to the Sisters of St. Dominic as coordinator at St. Catherine Convent and as a justice promoter, dedicating herself to advocating for peace and justice in line with the Dominican mission. Her work in ministry has left a lasting impact, and her legacy reflects a lifelong commitment to education, service, and advocacy for justice.
