Check out Sister Barbara Moore's photography exhibit at the Caldwell Public Library, running now though August 25th. The exhibit, "Memories," includes 31 of Sister Barbara's images.
She writes:
As a longtime member of the Sisters of Saint Dominic here in Caldwell, New Jersey, my past sixty-six years have been spent in education and pastoral ministry.
My interest to photography began by entering a back door of sorts. Years ago, when I was assigned as yearbook monitor, I was simply handed a school camera. A neighbor then offered me a camera that belonged to her father. It was an old, German Leica with none of the amenities added to the camera world of the eighties and nineties. It was bare bones equipment that had me struggling to manage depth of field and aperture skills now so easily done for you on a DSL camera.
Ansel Adams was my first hero. His ability to get what he achieved with a box on a cliff boggled my mind.
When digital cameras became the rage, I stubbornly held on to film. Three years (and 250 rolls of film accumulated on a three-week trip to Europe) later, I finally gave in to a digital version. I’m now experiencing a similar conflict between my trusty camera and a camera phone.
For me, photography has always been my companion in exploring, wondering, wandering and appreciating the surprise and beauty of the gift of creation. It continues to be a spiritual journey in all its forms. I’m certain that Adams felt the same.
It is a gift to me to have the opportunity to share photo blessings with all who come to enjoy and be touched by beauty.
