New Jersey’s Plastic Pollution Reduction Act went into effect Wednesday, May 4th. It bans plastic bags, most paper bags, and polystyrene (aka Styrofoam) food containers. The law also makes plastic straws available only upon request.
The Plastic Pollution Reduction Act is the strongest law of its kind in the country. It is made possible by the more than 130 local ordinances that environmental commissions helped to adopt across New Jersey.
