On Earth Day 2022, we publicly commit ourselves to supporting Pope Francis' Laudato Si' Action Platform and its goals, which will guide our actions and include a response to the cry of the Earth, a response to the cry of the poor, ecological economics, adoption of sustainable lifestyles, ecological education, ecological spirituality, and community resilience and empowerment.
Laudato Si’ Action Platform Commitment Statement Every effort to protect and improve our world entails profound changes in lifestyles, models of production and consumption, and the established structures of power which today govern societies (Laudato Si’ #5).
We, the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell, in response to Pope Francis’ encyclical, commit to join the international community in support of the Laudato Si’ Action Platform and goals, a seven year program for sustainability for Earth and all of her inhabitants.
We do so with the pledge to deepen our commitment to our vision statements:
We will reclaim our passion for contemplation and choose this as our lens through which we make decisions, live our lives, minister and perceive our world.
We will hold the promotion of Justice as top priority in every area of our Congregation.
We will commit ourselves to deepen our studying, living and teaching the mysteries of the universe and the sacredness of all creation.
We resist the ongoing devastation of our planet by a contemplative scrutiny of our use/abuse of Earth’s gifts.
We do so deepening our commitment to our corporate stances on climate change, racism, immigration reform, trafficking, genetically modified food, the death penalty, non-violence and our land ethic.
We do so with the belief that the Universe is the primary revelation of God and all of creation is one sacred, interdependent community to which we are mutually united.
We do so with the firm hope and conviction that each of us is called to conversion and to cooperate anew with the creative action of the Spirit to bring healing, compassion and new life to our wounded world.
We do so in solidarity with people around the world in this process of education, reflection, and effective actions toward a holistic approach to political, social, economic and environmental problems.
