Cosmology can be defined as a way of explaining the origin, history and evolution of the universe. Humans have always been curious about the structure and origin of the universe. Cosmological insights have been formed from observations, mythical traditions, and Biblical interpretations. Different cultures developed their own stories of how the universe began and evolved. In recent years science and technology have provided evidence about the origin, history and evolution of the universe. These new cosmological perceptions have come to be known as the New Cosmology.
“We will commit ourselves to deepen our studying, living, and teaching the mysteries of the Universe and the sacredness of all creation.” (Congregation Vision Statement – Chapter 1995)
In response to this Vision Statement, the Universe and Creation Study group has attempted to deepen its understanding of the New Cosmology through prayer, study and action. Periodically materials have been distributed, and speakers and films have been presented to many others.
