On October 20th, our congregation had the pleasure of celebrating with our 60th, 65th and 70th jubilarians. The festivities included a liturgy in Saint Catherine Chapel followed by dinner at Saint Catherine Convent. Our 2018 jubilarians were recognized for the following special anniversaries:

Celebrating 60 years: Sister Kathleen Boyle, OP, Sister Miriam Cannavale, OP, Sister Lois Curry, OP, Sister Donna Marie O’Brien, OP, Sister Jeanne Catherine Sheridan, OP, Sister Frances Margaret Smith, OP, Sister Mary Agnes Sullivan, OP

Celebrating 65 years: Sister Adrienne Fallon, OP, Sister Patricia McKearney, OP, Sister Rosalie Prew, OP, Sister Shaun Sheflott, OP

Celebrating 70 years: Sister Catherine Gerard Kirchner, OP, Sister Emma Patricia Murphy, OP, Sister Mary Ann O’Connor, OP, Sister Margaret Lucille Peterson, OP

In her welcoming remarks, Sister Patrice Werner, OP, Prioriess, said, “Often, on these occasions, the practice is to multiply and add the years of service and, if we did that today (4×70, 4×65 and 7×60), our total would be almost a thousand years. An impressive number.  But, as we know, numbers don’t necessarily tell the whole story.

So as I looked at the list of celebrants, I thought first of what they had DONE during those years of service. They have been teachers, principals, pastoral associates, musicians, preachers. They have worked in countless parishes and at the Motherhouse. They have shared convent living and ministry with many of us gathered here today. Wonderful service to the Church, to the people of God and to the Congregation.

But it’s rather what they have BEEN … what they ARE … that stirs my soul:  faithful/faith-filled Dominican women, loving sisters in community, preachers of truth in word and action, spiritual/spirit-filled women.

We in Community are blessed to call them our sisters.  We thank them for their years of service and are so pleased to celebrate with them.”

Congratulations to all of our 2018 jubilarians!
