Sister Suzanne McCaffrey, OP died peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 14 at St. Catherine Convent and Healthcare Center after a brief illness. A Dominican sister for fifty years, Sister Suzanne spent her entire life in the ministry of education, for which she was well prepared with degrees from Caldwell College in mathematics and religious studies, a Master’s degree in psychology from the New School for Social Research, and a Doctorate in Education from New York University.

After teaching at the middle school level in several parochial schools, Sister went on to teach high school mathematics and religion at Paul VI Regional High School, Clifton and at St. Dominic Academy, Jersey City, where she was also a guidance counselor. Sister Suzanne became registrar of Caldwell College in 1978 and was greatly instrumental in advancing the computerization of the administrative offices. As principal of Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair from 1993-2007, Sister oversaw the introduction of college-level on-line courses and a required service-learning component as part of the student curriculum. Upon her retirement, Sister returned to Caldwell College to assist with the organization of the college archives.

A native of Nutley, New Jersey, Sister Suzanne is survived by her sister, Lynn McCaffrey, and many loyal friends.
