Sister Patricia O’Donnell was a woman of faith, kind, reliable, very proud of her Irish ancestry, loved the beach, and is remembered and loved by many people. Her death came a little too soon for us. She was often heard asking “Do you need anything?” and humming in the hall as she went about her morning routine, walking around Sacred Heart Convent these past seven years.  She usually had a smile and some tidbit to share with anyone she met. Sister Pat was also very generous to the Food Pantry at Our Lady of Sorrows in Jersey City, and as a gesture of gratitude, our Sisters there opened the doors of the Food Pantry in her honor the day of her funeral.

Sister Patricia put her heart and soul into everything she did. Her spectrum of dedicated experience included teaching at the primary, middle and high school levels. She was also a principal, was a pastoral minister and then an adult education coordinator. She was very generous and conscious of those who did not have what they needed. Before the pandemic and ban on visiting and having Mass at St. Catherine’s Healthcare Center, she always took delight in her role as a Eucharistic Minister bringing communion to the residents in the healthcare center. Being Irish, she had already been helping to plan for the St. Patrick’s Day Party. This year, she will be celebrating it with her parents and friends in heaven. Sister Patricia, rest in peace, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
