Sister Nancy Bourk, OP

Sister Nancy Bourk, OP, who joyfully celebrated her 60th Jubilee on December 8, died peacefully at St. Catherine’s Convent and Health Care Center on January 2. A gifted  teacher  in both the intermediate and secondary classroom, Sister Nancy influenced the lives of many students.

Educated in Connecticut, Sister entered the Caldwell Dominican Congregation in 1952. She received her B.A. degree from Caldwell College, the Master of Arts in English from Scranton University, and a Master of Divinity from Seton Hall University. Her teaching ministry began at St. Paul the Apostle School  in Irvington. In subsequent years Sister taught at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell, at Caldwell College, and at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Britain, CT. She was a devoted student of literature and a skillful writer, whose work was published in a variety of Catholic journals, including Sign Magazine.

Upon her retirement to St. Catherine’s Convent and Healthcare Center, Sister Nancy maintained an active presence, cordially welcoming guests at the reception desk with well-informed conversation. Her thoughtful, prayerful presence will be missed.
