Having lived nearly 70 years as a Dominican Sister of Caldwell, Sister Jean Veronica went to the Lord on January 15, 2015. An expert teacher of history and social studies, Sister touched many lives as an instructor at several Dominican high schools, including Lacordaire , St. Dominic Academy and St.Mary’s High School.

Folllowing the fall of Communism in the early 1990’s, Sister Jean generously volunteered to go to Poland where she worked with the reviving Catholic communities which had been suppressed for so many years. A fluent speaker of Polish, she was a great assent to the renewal team.

Two years ago at its annual Gala, St. Dominic Academy honored two of its outstanding alumnae, both of whom hold prominent positions in the social services. Each of these women separately referred to Sister Jean as the most influential teacher of their high school years because “she not only taught us history. She taught us to care about our world.” Surely, this isthe highest praise any teacher could hope for!
