SISTER GENEVIEVE MARIE LONG, OP

While praying Office for the Dead in memory of Sister Genevieve Marie, I was struck by the opening lines of Psalm 146. They seemed to refer specifically to her.

Praise the Lord, O my soul;
I will praise God all my life,/
sing to God all my days.

I’ve known Gen for over 55 years. She was the Postulant Director (sister in charge of those just beginning religious life). One of the things we quickly learned about her was that she had a beautiful singing voice. The other quick study was that she was a woman of grace and gratitude.

In recent years I don’t think I ever talked with her that she didn’t tell me how grateful to God she was for all that had been…the good, the difficult, the challenging. Never a complaint, never taking things for granted.

All these years later, Sister Genevieve Marie is still showing us how to live religious life well. Thank you, Gen. You embodied these words from Psalm 146:

Praise the Lord, O my soul;
I will praise God all my life,/
sing to God all my days.
