SISTER EDITH MAGDALEN VISIC, OP

Sister Edith Magdalen Visic died peacefully at St. Catherine Healthcare Center on the evening of May 25. Sister Edith entered the Caldwell Dominicans in 1946, receiving the B.S. degree from Caldwell College and the M.B.A. from Seton Hall University with continuing studies in Spanish at Seton Hall and in Russian at Fordham University. During her sixty-six years of active ministry Sister held positions of significant responsibility including treasurer of the Congregation from 1969-79, President of Caldwell College from 1979-84 and Principal of Mt. St. Dominic Academy from 1984-89. She also taught Spanish and Business both at Saint Dominic Academy, Jersey City and at Caldwell College.

Over the years Sister shared generously of her business acumen as a trustee of most of the Dominican sponsored institutions as well as a board member of the Association of Independent Colleges of New Jersey. In recent years Sister Edith served as an administrative assistant to the Prioress, Sister Arlene Antczak. A native of Dalmatia, Croatia, she frequently revealed just a slight trace of her native tongue as she said “Dahlink, listen to me…” and then imparted some piece of sage advice.

Sister Edith was the beloved sister of Rev. Edward Visich and Karen Visich Mirkovich and the late Milenka Visich. She will be especially missed by the Sisters of the Mary House community, where she was a beloved resident for the past four years.
