Sister Bernadette Makely was a prayerful and kind woman who served her God and congregation faithfully. She was a dedicated teacher, always interested in the welfare of her students. Sister Bernadette Michael taught mostly junior high but dabbled in the elementary level for twenty-one years.  Besides teaching, she had a deep love for reading and pursued further studies so she could be a school librarian. She ministered as a librarian for almost thirty years.

When her mother became frail, Sister Bernadette returned to teaching so she could assist her Mother on weekends. She ended her active ministry teaching Math to gifted students.

She spent the first few years of her retirement in Jersey City and then moved to Florida and resided with her good friend Sister Barbara Duffy. They assisted the priests in their local parish. When she could no longer visit the local library, she learned how to access e-books on her laptop.

Sister Bernadette spent her final years in St. Catherine Healthcare Center.  Sister was loved by her sisters in community and her nieces and nephews.  Sister Bernadette is probably running the library in heaven and catching up on reading the books she never got to read. Blessings, Sister Bernadette Michael.
