Although there has been an increase in overt antisemitic attacks in recent months and years, antisemitism has existed for millennia in various forms. Rabbi Sara Blumenthal will discuss with us this perennial issue through the lens of history to examine the forces behind antisemitism and how they are playing out in our current moment. Together we will address ways we can all combat antisemitism in our community.
Throughout Christian history, Matthew’s Gospel has been the most widely read and quoted of the three Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke). Individual portions of it (like the Sermon on the Mount) have instant name recognition even among those who do not read the Bible. This introduction to Matthew’s Gospel will concentrate on his literary themes as a guide to his message about Jesus to provide signposts for those who hear the Gospel read at the Sunday liturgy this year.
Dorothy Day had Vatican II heart and spirit two generations before it was even a reality! Perhaps the deepest soul-experience of Jesus took place in gardens, the garden of Gethsemane and the Resurrection. We, too, have a garden of deep spiritual experience. This afternoon we will have the opportunity of entering our soul garden and working the rich soil of God's grace. A time to discover new plants, new tools, new designs for our gardens. "Tending Our Soul Garden" is an invitation to greet the new life of spring with reflection, prayer, experience and quiet, as we find the presence with us there.
“Anyone thirsting for a more intimate and disciplined life of prayer will find a rich wellspring in The Cup of Our Life. In this original and practical book, Joyce Rupp shares how the ordinary cups that we use each day can become sacred vessels that connect us with life and draw us ever closer to God.” The recent book discussions have been a source of sharing, laughter and insights that happen when we come together to learn from one another and ourselves. Please bring a favorite cup to the first meeting and read the Introduction and Week One.
