On August 15, 2024, Sister Bettyanne Schultz, OP, a 2024 jubilarian celebrating 75 years as a Sister of Saint Dominic of Caldwell, entered into eternal life at the age of 93 at St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center in Caldwell, New Jersey.
Sister Bettyanne (formerly Sister Mary Albert) earned a bachelor’s degree from Caldwell University and a master’s degree in American history with a political science minor from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was a master teacher of history for many years, ministering at the following schools in New Jersey: St. Mary School, Rutherford; St. Virgil School, Morris Plains; St. Mary School, Wharton; St. Philip the Apostle School, Clifton; St. Dominic Academy, Jersey City; St. John the Baptist School, Jersey City; and Lacordaire Academy, Upper Montclair. She served as principal at St. Brigid School in North Bergen. Sister Bettyanne also spent a considerable amount of time graciously ministering as both principal and teacher at St. Catherine of Siena School in Mobile, Alabama. Eventually, she became the principal of the school she loved: St. Dominic Academy in Jersey City.
In her retirement, she remained a prayerful woman of God, interested, active, and involved in community matters and current events. Her generous spirit and easy smile permeated all she did. While we mourn her loss, we celebrate a life lived in service to others.
On Friday, August 23, 2024, a wake and funeral Mass for Sister Bettyanne was held at St. Aloysius Church, 219 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ. The wake was from 9:15–10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Graveside services followed the Mass at Gethsemane Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds. If you were unable to attend the Mass in person, here is the link to the livestream recording.
Please keep Sister Bettyanne, her family and friends, and her Dominican sisters in your prayers.
