On Sunday, November 12th, the Caldwell Dominican community welcomed six new associates: Justin George, Alexandra Giorgio, Ann Marie Nazzaro, Kathleen Quinn, Anne Utley, and Christine Victori. The extended community gathered with loved ones and friends of the candidates in the Motherhouse Chapel for a prayerful, heartfelt commitment ceremony with the new associates affirming their calls to follow the charism and mission of Saint Dominic and the Caldwell Dominican sisters.
Sister Mary Amelia Cetera, OP, a Sister of Saint Dominic of Caldwell for 84 years, entered into eternal life on November 25, 2023, at the age of 101 at Saint Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center, Caldwell, NJ.
Caldwell Dominican Associate Jacqueline Alworth’s first experience with Dominican life was some fifty years ago when her late father, a much-loved supporter of the Sisters of Saint Dominic, walked her through the doors of St. Catherine Convent for piano lessons. Thus began a lifelong relationship with music and with the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell.
Sister Danelle McCarthy, OP, will celebrate her 70th year as a Caldwell Dominican in 2024. Though she has retired from serving as the community’s justice promoter, Sister Danelle continues to advocate for the downtrodden, calls for peace to end conflicts of war and violence, addresses the incarceration of persons seeking asylum in the United States, and publicly demonstrates in protests for social justice causes.
On this day of fasting, penance, and prayer for peace, we unite in prayer with the global community, believing that our combined efforts can serve as a positive force, capable of inspiring change in people's hearts and guiding the world towards a path of peace.
The Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell wholeheartedly support Cardinal Tobin’s statement on the Middle East conflict: “Let us join with our sisters and brothers in the Holy Land and throughout the world in fervent, heartfelt prayer for peace, justice and reconciliation. Let us work tirelessly to make peace with justice a reality in our hearts, our communities, and among all nations and peoples.” Today, we, along with members of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG), answer the call of the Bishops of the Holy Land for a day of fasting and prayer dedicated to peace and reconciliation.

At the 85th International Conference of the Catholic Biblical Association of America, Carol J. Dempsey, OP, was elected Vice President for 2023-2024 and President Elect (to assume that next stage of leadership in 2024-2025).
On August 7th and 8th, sisters and associates gathered to celebrate First Vespers and the Feast of Saint Dominic at Saint Catherine Convent and Healthcare Center and enjoyed one another’s company.
A spirited, hope-filled and hardworking group of approximately 130 Dominican Sisters, all under 70 and from different congregations, states, and countries—Philippines, Mexico, and Dominican Republic— gathered in Columbus, Ohio, this past weekend, July 27-30, 2023, to participate in the “Creating Our Future Together” convocation. The group ranged from those beginning their novitiate (5) to those who have been members for decades. Twelve sisters attended virtually. Clearly evident among all was a passion to preach the Gospel message that brings life to the world through their lives and actions.
Sisters, associates, and friends enjoyed a field trip to Van Fleck Gardens in Montclair jointly sponsored by the Commission on Global Issues and the Universe & Creation Committee. Pizza luncheon followed at Sacred Heart Convent!
