Sponsored by the Unverse and Creation Committee and the Global Issues Committee, a program of prayer and song took place on Earth Day. April 22 on the Motherhouse grounds. In welcoming the gift of a Peace Pole from the Resurrection School In Jersey City, Sister Alice Uhl, Chairman of the Global Study Committee, explained that the pole is intended to remind us that we are meant to be at peace with ourselves, our world neighbors and our earth. The event was attended by Sisters and staff of the Motherhouse, the Academy religion classes.as well as St. Catherine’s Convent and other guests. The peace pole will be located next to the statue of St. Joseph near the front of the Motherhouse building.
The prayer readings were done by Sister deMontfort Kinchellagh , Social Justice Promotor for the Caldwell Dominicans, and Catherine Richards, Mission Designee for St. Catherine’s Convent and Healthcare Center. The tree blessing was read by Linda Arndt, Dean of Humanities and Mission Designee for Mount St. Dominic The service concluded with the singing of “Let there be Peace on Earth,” led by Sister Mary Immaculate and Sister Judy Rudolph, followed by the exchange of the greeting of peace by all the attendees.
