Sister Mary Augustine O’Donnell, OP, fondly known as “Sister Gussie,” a member of the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell for 73 years, entered into eternal life on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the age of 97 at Saint Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center in Caldwell, NJ.
Over 55 former and present members of the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell attended this fall's reunion on September 21st. The event was organized by the core team of the former members' committee.
On August 15th, Sister Bettyanne Schultz, OP, a 2024 jubilarian celebrating 75 years as a Sister of Saint Dominic of Caldwell, entered into eternal life at the age of 93 at St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center in Caldwell, New Jersey.
On June 6th, the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell recognized Catherine Mulroe and Maryann Schaeffer with the congregation’s 2024 Peace Award for their outstanding ministry to migrants, refugees, and those seeking asylum in collaboration with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark. Catherine and Maryann emulate the gospel message of beatitude: I was homeless, and you gave me shelter; clothed me when I was naked; fed me when I was hungry; welcomed me when I was a stranger. Their lives and ministries reflect the challenge of St. Catherine of Siena who said, “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”
In mid-April, Caldwell Dominican Sister Pat Wormann, OP, Delegate for Religious for the Archdiocese of Newark; Father Anthony Randazzo, Pastor at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Westfield; and Roland Flores, Holy Trinity parishioner and McAllen, TX native, headed to the border to learn more about how Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley has served hundreds of thousands of migrants.
On April 24th, Sister Donna L. Ciangio, OP, was presented with the Caldwell University Presidential Scholarship Gala Award. Other honorees included Bryan J. Norton, Carlos M. Pomares, and Atlantic Health System.
